Direct Entry programs in Nigeria
What is Direct Entry? Direct Entry, also known as D.E is another way of admission into Nigerian Universities apart from the JAMB Utme way of admission and one gets admitted into straight to 200level.
Direct Entry(D.E) is acceptable by all Nigerian Universities and it is only applicable to students with approved supplementary certificates other than the Waec certificate.
All the courses under UTME are also obtainable for direct entry.
The form is sold by JAMB with registrations also to be done on the Jamb website and that of the Universities
The basic qualifications needed for Direct entry Programs in Nigeria are:
Ordinary National Diploma certificate (OND)
Higher National Diploma certificate (HND)
Candidates must have grade points that meets up the choiced course of the University chosen.
The General requirements for Direct Entry programs in Nigeria(D.E) that is applicable to all Universities are:
A minimum of 5 GCE/WAEC credits at not more than 2 sittings.
2 subject passes at the IJMB examination, JUPEB or other approved advanced level examination. With 3 other subjects passes applicable to the University choice.
Minimum of lower credit for National Diploma. Etc
The Different Direct entry programs in Nigeria
1.IJMB : meaning Interim Joint Matriculation Board , It is a PROVEN, APPROVED & CERTIFIED Advanced level programme owned & moderated by Ahmadu Bello University and having coordinating body in various tertiary institutions and different Study Centres Nationwide . The programme runs for a period of one academic session ( 9 – 12 month ) divided in two( 2 ) semesters . It is specifically designed to provide an opportunity for candidates who cannot gain admission to regular degree programmes in Nigerian Universities for one reason or the other , as it requires no JAMB nor post UTME, Also awaiting result candidate can Enroll . The programme is open to all interested candidates nationwide and any course can be offered be it Science, Art or Social Science. Candidates are to be lectured for the stipulated period at your respective Study Center and thereafter sit for the final examination . On successful completion of the programme , successful candidates thereafter utilize their IJMB certificate to secure admission into 200level in any Nigeria tertiary institution by means of Direct Entry . Hence, IJMB is recognised and accepted in more than 80% of Nigeria Universities .
2 . JUPEB : It is of the acronym Joint Universities Preliminary Examination Board , It is a new Advanced Level examination body recently established and coordinated by the University of Lagos. To avoid repetition, basically the programme description , operation and specification is similar to that of Interim Joint matriculation Board ( IJMB) coordinated by Ahmadu Bello University stated above. JUPEB is as at now recognized by major Federal, state and private universities in Southern Nigeria . Hence, JUPEB is recognized and accepted in more than 80% of Nigerian Universities .
3 . DIPLOMA/ PRE- DEGREE PROGRAMMES: All Nigeria tertiary institutions offer a diploma and /or Pre-degree programme or something similar . Diploma is a programme that runs for a period of 1 / 2 /3 years depending on the preferred school and course , in which upon successful completion allows candidates to secure admission into 200level via Direct Entry mode into same university . On the other hand , Pre- degree is a programme which runs for a period of an academic session ( 7 – 12 month ) divided in two( 2 ) semesters depending on the school , in which upon successful completion allows candidates to secure admission into 100level in same university . In addition to our findings about Pre – degree programmes , On completion of the programme some schools require candidates to meet up to Jamb university cutoff before 100 level admission can be secured, while some only requires candidates to write jamb only . 4. OND/HND: While OND stands for Ordinary National Diploma, HND stands for Higher National Diploma. Both certificates can be acquired by attending a polytechnic. The OND program runs for two years after which students go on a compulsory One year Industrial Training, after this they can either decide to further their study in order to get their HND certificate. These Two results/Certificate can be used to Seek for Direct Entry Admission in Nigeria.
